Netaniahu’s Kafkaesque vision of Palestinian statehood
Khaled Amayreh
There is no doubt that Benyamin Netanyahu’s odious screed at Bar Ilan University Sunday night was a slap in the face to all those who gave the so-called “peace process” between the Palestinian people and Israel the benefit of the doubt…. Undoubtedly, Netanyahu’s speech amounted to a complete negation of all the “understandings and agreements” reached since the conclusion of the infamous Oslo Accords more than 16 years ago. Netanyahu did say that he w ould be willing to accept a castrated Palestinian state somewhere in “the Land of Israel”. However, he insisted that such an entity would have to be tightly controlled by Israel and bereft of any semblance of sovereignty or dignity… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55136

Iranian opposition presidential candidate Mir Hussein Moussavi is planning a march of his supporters at 4 p.m. Monday in Tehran, Iranian sources said. He apparently went to see the supreme leader Sunday to seek a permit for it, but one hasn’t yet been obtained. If he is prevented from getting permission, he has said he plans to march to the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomenei, an act that Iranians say the authorities of the Islamic Republic would be disinclined to prevent. Iranian sources said fo rmer Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani is in Qom, seeking to persuade clerics not to certify the Iranian elections. Another presidential candidate, Mohsen Rezai, the former head of the Revolutionary Guards, issued a statement today saying he wants to have the ballots examined, Iranian sources said. MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
Malcom Lagauche
…Then, the propaganda machines went into full gear. According to many media pundits, Mousavi’s victory would reverse all the negative aspects of Iran. They began affixing names and colors to the revolution. These were identical to the Western depictions of elections in Czechoslovakia, Ukraine, and other former Soviet republics that the U.S. was courting. Even the bogus Iraqi “elections” of 2005 were designated the “purple” revolution. With Iran, the same script writers emerged. The y tried to affix a name to the occurrences in Iraq, such as the “velvet” revolution. But, I think that name had already been used. A few days before the election, young Iranians took to the street to show their support of a new Iran. Few, however, realized that Mousavi did not include a revolution in his agenda… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55127
