The Man Who Knew Too Much? A Convenient Suicide in a Libyan Prison
Benjamin Davis

Little noted thusfar by the newspapers of record in the United States, Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi, the al-Qaeda operative tortured for the United States by the Egyptian secret police, died in a Libyan prison this past weekend of what has been called a “suicide.” For those who only vaguely remember al-Libi’s name, al-Libi is the al-Qaeda person picked up at an al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan and extraordinarily rendered to Egypt to be tortur ed at the United States behest. Al-Libi is the one reported to have linked al-Qaeda to Saddam Hussein in a false confession that was the result of this torture that Saddam Hussein was training al-Qaeda in bomb making, poisons, and deadly gases….

Pope Snub Upsets Gaza Christians
Pope Snub Upsets Gaza Christians By Motasem Dalloul, IOL Correspondent

…Monsignor Mussalam was more vocal and critical. “Your voice must be louder and louder and you must deal with the Holy Land far from the greed of the Europeans, but from the eye of humanity and the eye of sanctity,” he stressed. “Western countries are the reason behind the creation of Israel which was built on the bodies, lands and worship places of the Palestinians,” fumed the Christian clergyman. “It is true that not all of them are Catholics, but all of them are Christians and so they are under your word,” he said, addressing his words to Pope Benedict. “You must tell them that they have to facilitate our return to the occupied lands. Don’t forget that the origin of your current position is from Palestine and your faith is originated from Palestine as Jesus who came with Christianity is from Palestine.”…

Juan Cole

Dick Cheney is out there. He is defending torture, dissing Colin Powell, and genuflecting before radio personality Rush Limbaugh as the high priest of what’s left of conservatism. His refusal to go quietly, unlike his much-reviled boss, is risky. He was a laugh line more than once at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. But the media’s focus on the sheer spectacle of the ex-veep’s antics, and on the Republican vs. Democrat feud he’s stoking, underestimates the way Cheney’s principles still inform many of the country’s most crucial policies…

Khaled Amayreh

He says that his lineage goes back to Tamim al-Dari, a companion of Prophet Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), who arrived from the Arabian Peninsula and settled in the Al-Khalil region around 650 A.D. “Without the slightest exaggeration, I can solemnly testify that my roots in this land are deeper than the roots of 99.99% of Israeli Jews, the very people who are now claiming we don’t belong here and who are trying to expel us from this land, our land,” h e told IslamOnline.net…
