Neo-Nazis are in the Army now
Why the U.S. military is ignoring its own regulations and permitting white supremacists to join its ranks.
Matt Kennard
On a muggy Florida evening in 2008, I meet Iraq War veteran Forrest Fogarty in the Winghouse, a little bar-restaurant on the outskirts of Tampa, his favorite hangout. He told me on the phone I would recognize him by his skinhead. Sure enough, when I spot a white guy at a table by the door with a shaved head, white tank top and bulging muscles, I know it can only be him. Over a plate of chicken wings, he tells me about his path into the white-power movement. “I was 14 when I decided I wanted to be a Nazi,” he says. At his first high school, near Los Angeles, he was bullied by black and Latino kids. That’s when he first heard Skrewdriver, a band he calls “the godfather of the white power movement.” “I became obsessed,” he says… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55170
The Latest from Mullahstan and its proxies…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
After watching the despicable racist jew netanyahu delivering his racist nazi speech, I held on despite my intense indigestion and watched another program on Al-Arabiya regarding the elections in Mullahstan – Iran. It seems that a few media outlets have been banned in Iran and one of them is Al-Arabiya’s bureau that has been ordered to close down a week ago until further notice…[...] Meanwhile in Iraq, Talabani (and he is not the only one) wa rmly congratulated Ahmadinejad, and looked forward for more “fruitful cooperation” between the two countries. By the way the puppet Karzai from Afghanistan did the same… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55167
Skewed and in secret, this Iraq inquiry is a scandal
Jonathan Steele
Gordon Brown’s announcement of a secret inquiry into the runup to and conduct of Britain’s invasion and occupation of Iraq (not the nouns he used, of course) is scandalous. First, the manner of his decision. Just last week the prime minister committed himself to a new spirit of public accountability, cross-party consultation on electoral and parliamentary reform, as well as a greater and more independent role for backbenchers and select committees. Now he promptly goes against all that when it comes to looking into the most important foreign policy decision of the last decade… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55194
Barghouthi: Netanyahu’s speech proved the absence of a peace partner in Israel
Palestinian Information Center
MP Mustafa Al-Barghouthi, the secretary-general of the Palestinian national initiative, said on Monday that Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu proved in his speech on Sunday that there is no peace partner in Israel and his willingness to entrench the apartheid system against the Palestinians. MP Barghouthi added that Netanyahu practiced deception and misinformation in his speech and wanted to replace the idea of a Palestinian state with the same system of ghettoes or bantustans that used to exist in the past in South Africa… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55176

Taliban raids increase, plan to disrupt Afghan poll: government
By Sayed Salahuddin, Reuters
Afghanistan’s interior minister said on Sunday the Taliban have stepped up their attacks in many parts of the country and warned the Islamist militants would attempt to sabotage an August 20 presidential election. Hanif Atmar’s comments mirror those of U.S. and NATO military commanders who said insurgent attacks soared 59 percent in the first five months of 2009 compared with the same period last year to reach the highest level si nce the Taliban’s overthrow in 2001. Like U.S. Central Command chief General David Petraeus, who is responsible for U.S. military strategy in the Middle East and Central Asia, Atmar also warned worse was to come as more U.S. and Afghan troops pursue Taliban fighters in their strongholds… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55181
The meaning of the Tehran spring
By Pepe Escobar
… The trillion-dollar-question regarding this new “revolutionary” situation is that as things stand, no pacifying solution can be found within the institutional framework of the Islamic Republic. In a nutshell, Ahmadinejad has made his power play against Mousavi and Rafsanjani. The Supreme Leader fully supported him. Mousavi and Rafsanjani, plus Khatami, need an urgent counterpunch. And their only possible play is to go after Khamenei…. Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55190

Pentagon ‘Reconsidering’ Promise to Make Afghanistan Civilian Killings Probe Public
Alleged Video Vindicating Troops May Never See Light of Day
Jason Ditz
In early May, a series of US air strikes in multiple villages in the Farah Province of Afghanistan killed 140 civilians, by far the single deadliest incident since the 2001 invasion. The official story of the US military changed several times. Initially, they went with the claim that the entire incident was made up by the Taliban, who had kidnapped hundreds o f civilians, killed them with hand grenade, then left them in empty houses which they tricked the US into bombing… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55179
Netanyahu Offer a ‘Big Zero’
By Mel Frykberg
Yasser Abed Rabbo, secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s executive committee, and a close confidant of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, has dismissed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s foreign policy speech Sunday night as a big zero. Abed Rabbo said the speech was empty of content, and pointless. “Netanyahu is a swindler…who makes up tricks about the achievement of peace,” he was reported as saying by the Palestinian news agency Maan… Read the full article / Leggi l’articolo completo: http://www.uruknet.de/?p=55166
Iran vote and protests
LENIN’S TOMB
… So, the first question that occurs is, why should the ballots be rigged? This is skated over in a lot of the commentary as if the answer were obvious – Mousavi advocated reform, duh! However, Mousavi is hardly a dangerous candidate for the Iranian ruling class: rather, he represents a powerful faction of it. True, he was once on the ‘Islamic Left’ back in the 1980s, and it was due to the support of the left-leaning majles that he was made prime minister against Khomeini’s preferences . Today, however, he is a centrist allied to the ‘Modern Right’. His solutions to Iran’s problems of accumulation and development are impeccably neoliberal. This is why he got the backing of the old crook, cynic, capitalist and Iran-Contra arms dealer, Hashem Rafsanjani….Why should he have suddenly become so dangerous that the Iranian state, or powerful sectors within it, would risk a stupid fix? The answer could only be that by tapping a popular demands for reforms, the candidacy might have unleashed a movement that seriously frightened some factions in the ruling class…. Urgent action required: The Israeli Supreme Court has just ruled that the home of Salim and Arabiya Shawamreh in Anata, which has already been demolished by the Israeli authorities four times, can be demolished yet again.
