DECEPTION AND DEFIANCE FROM U.S. ADMINISTRATION, NOT SADDAM HUSSEIN
Malcom Lagauche

On Sunday, May 16, 2004, Colin Powell, in an interview for NBC’s “Meet the Press,” actually came clean about the deceit used to prime the U.S. public for a war against Iraq. He acknowledged that information fed to him and the CIA by Iraqi defectors about Iraqi mobile biological weapons facilities was untrue. Powell said: It turned out that the sourcing was inaccurate and wrong and in some cases deliberately misleading. And for that I a m disappointed and I regret it. Powell seemed to apologize to the American people and to the media. However, no apology from him or any U.S. official has ever been made to the Iraqis, whether to the former government or to the people, for lying that led to the destruction of the country and the deaths of more than a million…

Pink Dreams…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues

… Gays in Iraq, even though tolerated in the past, have become the target of a witch hunt. Tens of them have been decapitated, mutilated, burned and massacred in broad day light for their sexual preferences, in “free” post liberated Iraq…What makes it even more unacceptable is while Iraqi gays are being murdered in the most brutal, sadistic fashion in the Red Zone… The Green Zone American hookers are, in parallel, organizing a gay party in Baghdad, for the white assed g ays amongst them. White as in a cultural construction not as in race… So what was I telling you ? I always go off on a tangent, albeit a necessary one, because your fucking hypocrisy always catches up with me… Yes, I was telling you about the Pink Gay Pride Party in the Green Zone. So your faggots must be really very proud of a job well done in Eyeraq. Like, does that include the child sodomizers and rapists of Iraqi pubescent boys in Abu Ghraib or does it exclude them from your Pink party ? …

By James Cogan

A humanitarian catastrophe is taking place in areas of Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP), as a result of the Obama administration’s expansion of the occupation of Afghanistan into the so-called “AfPak war”. Israel used depleted uranium in offensive on Gaza — NGOs
KUNA

Action of Citizens for the total Dismantling of Nukes (ACDN) said Saturday that it has just produced a 33-page report concluding that the presence of as much as 75 tons of depleted uranium in Gaza soil is highly probable to the Israeli “Operation Cast Lead” offensive. The operation took place between December 27, 2008 and January 18, 2009. During the first few days, a Norwegian doctor doing humanitarian service in the hospital at Shifa, Dr Mads Gilbert, denoun ced the presence of radioactive matter, possibly depleted uranium, in the bodies of victims. This accusation has now emerged with greater strength after several months of investigation carried out in close liaison with the people concerned and with the help of Jean-Francois Fechino, a consultant on diffuse pollution and an expert accredited to the UN Environment (UNEP)…

Slayings shattered dreams of rural Iraqi family
BRETT BARROUQUERE, Associated Press Writer

The beautiful, dark-haired girl in the photograph stands near a wall in pre-invasion Iraq. What is unseen and now lost, her family says, is her dream of moving to the big city and getting married. “Abeer was a strong woman,” said her aunt, Ameena Hamza Rashid al-Janabi. “She was very proud to be young.” Relatives of the girl, Abeer Qassim al-Janabi, and prosecutors detailed the teen’s hopes and life during the civilian trial of form er Pfc. Steven Dale Green, 24, in western Kentucky. They showed pictures of the family at home, and relatives recounted their aspirations for a better life. Green, of Midland, Texas, was convicted of multiple counts, including conspiracy and murder in the March 2006 killings of 14-year-old Abeer and her father, mother and 6-year-old sister near Mahmoudiya, Iraq, about 20 miles south of Baghdad…

What Obama Isn’t Going to Change about Military Commissions
Jeremy R. Hammond

…One thing Obama isn’t changing is the fact that the detainees are considered “unlawful enemy combatants” under the Military Commissions Act of 2006. Under the Act, and “unlawful enemy combatant” means anyone who has “engaged in hostilities” against the U.S., “including a person who is part of the Taliban, al Qaeda, or associated forces.” That pretty much includes anyone who has exercised his right to take up arms against the foreign invading and occupying U.S. forces in Afghanistan — a right protected under the U.N. Charter, which recognizes “the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense” against armed attack. A “lawful enemy combatant”, by contrast, is a member of a regular, uniformed army, under the military commissions. To understand the significance of this distinction and its application under the military commissions, by this logic, un-uniformed members of the state militias fighting the British Redcoats during the American Revolutionary War must be considered to have been “unlawful enemy combatants” — a determination the officers of King George’s army would no doubt have agreed with…

Current situation in Gaza
Natalie Abou Shakra

On Friday May 15th, Palestinians around the world commemorated 61 years of Nakba, the Catastrophe, 61 years of ongoing crimes against humanity, massacres, slow motion genocide in an unending process of ethnic cleansing, in a bundle of unjust “peace” treaties benefiting the colonizer and re-colonizing the oppressed. In addition, lack of civil rights and system of racial discrimination within the 1948 lands, what is now called ‘Israel’, and the 1967 lands, Gaza and the West Bank , both under direct occupation, both “homelands” for a people based on an ethnic background, re-producing the White Man’s categorization of what used to be called Bantustans (homeland for “Bantu” or “Black” man) during the Apartheid regime in South Africa; the West Bank composed of Bantustans with checkpoints separating each, occupation, repression, settler colonialism, settlement expansion, home demolition and land expropriation….

Health conditions worsening in Gaza as borders remain closed
UN News Service

The deteriorating health situation in Gaza has been intensified by Israel’s blockade of crossings into the area, the United Nations agency tasked with assisting Palestinian refugees warned today. Even before Israel’s military offensive targeting Hamas militants on the tiny strip of land earlier this year, which killed over 1,400 people and injured 5,000 others, the border closures had a grave impact on the health of Gazans and the ability of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to provide health services…

‘Israel Map’ Withdrawn from London Tube
IslamOnline.net

Floods of complaints have forced the Israeli government to withdraw tourism posters from London Underground for featuring a map that treating the occupied Arab lands as part of Israel. “(The ads are) a disingenuous attempt to remove the Palestinians from the public mind, and create a false impression about what constitutes Israel,” Hugh Lanning of the London-based Palestine Solidarity Campaign told the BBC on Saturday, May 23. The posters were “selling a lie” by sugg esting tourists could visit Gaza while the strip is subject to a strict Israeli blockade under which even some doctors and humanitarian workers have been denied entry, he said…
