Death on camera
Gabriel Ash

The following video, which probably half the world has seen, captures the death on camera of young Iranian woman killed while non-violently protesting for her rights. CNN broadcasted it. It a “symbol.”…The video on the other hand, is of the death on camera of Bassem Abu Rameh, a young Palestinian non-violent protester, near the apartheid wall that cuts into Bil’in. It wasn’t broadcast on CNN. It is not a “symbol.”We even have a picture of the alleged murderer of Bassem, probably posted on Isr aeli indymedia by eye-witnesses. (on top is the word ‘murderer’ in Hebrew). CNN can probably solve a murder case of a protester and bring the criminal to justice without spending more than a $100 of investigative journalism. Why don’t they do it?…

A Rare Perspicacity…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues

It is rare that I receive intelligent mails from America…even less so, from Arab-Americans….However and thankfully so, there are exceptions to the rule. They are rare and I have encountered a couple, not more. One of these exceptions comes from an email I received from an Arab-American, who prefers to remain anonymous. I am publishing his/her mail with his/her consent. I think this person is one of the very few who understood…I hope you will read that mail slow ly and let it sink in, because it holds many important insights and truths…

Son of PRISP
Obama’s Classroom Spies

By DAVID PRICE

As the continuities and disjunctures between the Bush and Obama administrations come into focus it becomes increasingly clear that while Obama’s domestic agenda has some identifiable breaks with Bush’s, at its core, the new administration remains committed to staying the course of American militarization. Now we have an articulate, nuanced president who supports elements of progressive domestic policies, can even comfortably say the phrase LGBT in public speec hes, while funding military programs at alarming levels and continuing the Bush administration’s military and intelligence invasion of what used to be civilian life…

Obama’s Financial Reform Proposal: A Stealth Scheme for Global Monetary Control
by Stephen Lendman

When politicians plan reform, it’s wise to be skeptical and hold on to your wallets. So fixing the economy by bailing out Wall Street is wrecking it, and Obama’s proposed health care reform taxes more, provides less, places profits above human need, avoids the most vital solutions, and leaves a broken system in place. Now there’s “Financial Regulatory Reform, A New Foundation: Rebuilding Financial Supervision and Regulation” – announced June 17 with Obama saying he’ll send Congress a plan to create new government agencies, give the private banking cartel Federal Reserve more power, and address five major problems needing regulatory and legislative measures to fix…

The necessity of cultural boycott
Ilan Pappe, The Electronic Intifada

If there is anything new in the never-ending sad story of Palestine it is the clear shift in public opinion in the UK. I remember coming to these isles in 1980 when supporting the Palestinian cause was confined to the left and in it to a very particular section and ideological stream. The post-Holocaust trauma and guilt complex, military and economic interests and the charade of Israel as the only democracy in the Middle East all played a role in provid ing immunity for the State of Israel. Very few were moved, so it seems, by a state that had dispossessed half of Palestine’s native population, demolished half of their villages and towns, discriminated against the minority among them who lived within its borders through an apartheid system and divided into enclaves two million and a half of them in a harsh and oppressive military occupation…

Iran: Statement by Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organizations about Presidential Election and recent unrest
Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organizations

Iranian people have witnessed the presidential elections in Iran. During the debates between candidates there was never any mention of destitute conditions of the working class, non-payment of wages, temporary-work contracts, medieval sentences of floggings, killings and incarceration of workers and labor activists, suppression of May 1st eve nts…. The reality is that these candidates themselves are collaborators in creation of such impoverished conditions facing working class and majority of the population in Iran. That is exactly why amongst hundreds of candidates only these four were hand-picked. In the election process all resources of capitalists, familiar and unfamiliar liberals, media networks of world capitalism: BBC, VOA, was utilized to convince people of elections as an arena for change…
