Afghan Resistance Statement
Statement on the use of white phosphorus
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
…As operations by the Mujahideen have currently increased in various parts of the country and as the enemy suffers heavy casualties on a daily basis, they carry out revenge attacks and bombings and target civilians every day, destroy villages and homes and ruthlessly martyr women, children and defenceless human beings using a variety of chemical and non-chemical weapons [...] The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan c ategorically denies the U.S. allegations about the use of white phosphorus by its mujahideens, and calls on all international organizations to carry out a neutral and independent investigation of such barbaric actions and to condemn and expose the criminals to the world public. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is ready for every cooperation in this regard…

Barack Obama – Mass Murderer
Dan Spielberg
If you are a poor, hapless Afghan civilian whose family’s bodies were ripped apart by U.S. bombs, does it really make a difference to you if the air “strikes” were ordered by the Moron from Texas, George W Bush, or the Agent of Change, Barack Obama? I would think not. If you were a Pakistani civilian whose village had been bombed by the U.S. would your heart be comforted by the fact that the mad bombers have a new, young, hip “Commander-in-Chief” who makes funny jokes to all the stenographers known as “The Washington Press Corps”? I sincerely doubt that as well. Barack Obama sold himself to the country as someone who would bring massive “change” to the policies of the U.S. government, but of course when it comes to the favorite activity of that cancerous organism, warring against wholly innocent civilian populations in foreign countries, there will be no change…

Obama Warns Netanyahu Not to Launch Surprise Attack on Iran
Just Days Before Netanyahu Visit, US Sends Urgent Message
Jason Ditz
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit the United States next week, arriving May 18 to discuss a myriad of issues. Apparently uncomfortable with waiting a few more days to discuss the matter, President Barack Obama has sent a message demanding that Netanyahu not launch any surprising military attacks against Iran…

Following al-Libi’s ‘Suicide,’ What About the Other ‘Ghost Detainees’ in Libya, Elsewhere?
Brad Friedman
Andy Worthington, who largely broke the story of the reported ‘suicide’ of Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi in a Libyan prison, into the English-language press on Sunday (as we helped that night), picked up last night on our followup to the original story, decrying the paucity of coverage of the disturbing report in the U.S. corporate mainstream media. Al-Libi was, after all, the ‘ghost detainee’ who had offered a false link betw een Iraq and al-Qaeda, used loudly by the Bush Administration before the war as a key justification for it, after being tortured by the CIA and Egypt, where he’d been secretly renditioned from U.S. custody at Guantanamo. He would later recant his false ‘confession,’ explaining that it had come about only after 17 hours of ‘mock burial,’ and a session of brutal beatings by his captors which followed it…

Obama prepares to resume military commissions of Guantánamo Bay prisoners
Tom Eley
More recent leaks from the Obama administration in the Washington Post indicate that the White House will soon move to revive the military commissions trials of “terror detainees” now held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, military prison. The trials, which were temporarily suspended by a January 20 executive order from President Barack Obama, would resume under slightly different guidelines. The order is set to expire May 20. It is likely Obama wil l request a 90-day extension while it works out the details of a revised tribunal system…

Recognizing The Jewish State’s Right to Exist
Jerry Levin
Recently Prime Minister Netanyahu became the first Israeli Prime Minister to voice a demand that Palestinians must recognize “The Jewish State’s right to exist” before it will enter talks. Right up until he changed the tune, the lyrics were that Palestinians much recognize “Israel’s right to exist,” despite the fact that the PLO and the Palestine Authority have been doing specifically that since the late 1980s. Whether or not he might retreat from the demand now th at it has been made, it is essential for the sake of clarity to examine exactly what the right of the Jewish State to exist means. Specifically it means that Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza must acknowledge and accept an undemocratic status quo not only in the territories until they say these mew magic words, but the same also applies for Palestinians in Israel who have been obliged to live under overtly undemocratic conditions since the founding of the Jewish State in 1948..

EU Observers in Hebron are Useless
Kawther Salam
I write this article about the TIPH, the “Temporary International Presence in Hebron”, after a former officer of these observers, who served in Hebron and who read my article from 2008 about the TIPH, wrote me some days ago confirming that the presence of these observers in Hebron is a waste of time. Whether this former officer of the TIPH is right or wrong in his brigadier-general-britt-t-b-brestrupopinion and what he wrote, I found it necessary to publish his letter, and to call upon governments of the European countries (Norway, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey, which still not part of the EU) to stop their support for the criminal Israeli occupation, which has converted the heart of the Palestinian city of Hebron into a concentration camp under their eyes…

History of CIA Torture: Unraveling the Web of Deceit, Part I
Military Torture, Legal Fig Leaves & Premature Exculpation…
Ernest A. Canning
…This is the first in a four-part series of articles which will strive to correct misperceptions arising from the erroneous blending of military and CIA torture. This task has become especially relevant now that the Justice Department’s the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC), the very section which had issued the torture memos, tasked by former Attorney General Michael Mukase y with investigating itself, has now released a recommendation that none of the authors of the torture memos be prosecuted. This recommendation stands in stark contrast to our nation’s post-World War II decision to prosecute German judges for war crimes at Nuremberg. Part I addresses the relatively public involvement of the U.S. military and private contractors at Guantanamo, Afghanistan and Iraq. It will dispel the notion that the Bush White House sought out independent legal opinions from the OLC before deciding to torture…

History of CIA Torture: Unraveling the Web of Deceit, Part II
Dark Beginnings, the KUBARK Torture Manual & the storied Bush-family/CIA legacy…
Ernest A. Canning
| …In a sense, it may be said that the CIA was a stepchild of Nazi Germany. As noted by Joseph Trento in Prelude to Terror (2006), its founder, Allen Dulles, had done business with the Nazis before World War II. Dulles served in the O.S.S. in Bern, Switzerland. From 1945 to 1947, preceding the creation of the CIA, Dulles ran his own private and entire ly illegal intelligence service in which he “began a massive ex-Nazi recruitment* campaign, using a State Department refugee office as a front.” The recruitment campaign, Prof. Alfred McCoy observed, in A Question of Torture (2006), entailed more than the use of war criminals as spies. It included German scientists “who had directed Nazi experiments into human physiology and psychology” and whose early research would lay the ground work for CIA torture techniques… |
